According to the latest market research, mycorrhiza-based biofertilizer market Is going to be registered as a CAGR of 14.8% during the expected period of 2022-2027. [1]

Mycorrhiza is a symbiotic association between plant roots and fungi. Their major role is to enhance nutrient and water uptake by the host plant by exploiting a larger volume of soil than roots alone can do. [2]

Production of arbuscular mycorrhiza-based preparations is concentrated in European Union countries: Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. There was a rapid increase in number of companies selling AM-inoculants in Europe from 2000 to 2017. 

Farmers have started to apply Mycorrhiza-based Biofertilizer to improve crop nutrition worldwide. The market is segmented by geography into North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, South America, and the Middle East and Africa.

Why is there a lot of interest in mycorrhiza?

According to official statistics, the total costs of American farmers for Monoammonium phosphate (MAP) and nitrogen fertilizers per hectare exceed $200. However, due to using fertilizers more efficiently, they have turned to mycorrhizal inoculation (approximate cost of $20-30/ha). As a result, it was possible to increase yields and reduce their fertilizer and water costs by up to 30% through inoculation.

In the United States and the European Union, farmers mainly practice mycorrhizal fertilizers in gardening and small areas. When in Ukraine, we have already experienced using mycorrhiza on large arable land of crops, particularly on sunflower, corn, wheat and others.

Mycofriend - is a complex mycorrhizal preparation for plant nutrition and improving soil health. It facilitates the colonization of the root zone and rhizosphere with mycorrhizal fungi and saprophytes, rhizospheric bacteria, increases resistance to stressful situations and intensifies metabolism.

Application of Mycofriend provides to formation of mycorrhiza, enhances nutrients and water uptake, and encreases stress resistance.

The Mycofriend application stimulates the development of strong and healthy roots, keeping moisture around the roots and assimilating more nutrients.

Value of microorganisms and fungi that are included in the Mycofriend composition:

  • First of all, a complex of mycorrhiza-forming fungi  Glomus VS and Trichoderma harzianum

  • microorganisms supporting the formation of mycorrhiza and plant rhizosphere: Streptomyces sp., Pseudomonas Fluorescens
  • phosphate-mobilizing bacteria: Bacillius Megaterium var. phosphaticum, Bacillus Subtilis, Bacillus Muciloginosus, Enterobacter sp, the total number of viable cells (1.0-1.5) x108 CFU/ml; 
  • bacteria biologically active metabolites: phytohormones, vitamins, amino acids.

In the composition of the preparation fungi of the genus Glomus provide the formation of highly effective endomycorrhiza, fungi of the genus Trichoderma can form ectomycorrhiza, and the bacterial component promotes the development of the root system, in particular, stimulates the formation of mycorrhiza.

Recommendations for applying to Mycofriend

Mycofriend is intended to treat seeds of cereals, legumes, technical crops, vegetables, row fertilization, fertilization, and seedlings. 

During the treatment and sowing of seeds, as well as when introducing the mycorrhizal preparations directly into the soil, should follow the main rules:

First, to avoid direct sunlight, all work should be carried out in the shade. Seeds are treated with a working solution of the biological products or soaked in it for 1-2 hours on the day of sowing. The treated seeds are sown immediately or dried to a loose state. The treatment of seedlings is carried out by short-term immersion of the root system in the working solution of the biological product, and the row fertilization is carried out the during sowing.

In terms of acidity and structure, the fungi best function in neutral or slightly acid soil pH; better pH ranges 4.5 - 6. In case acidity is below pH 4 and above pH 8, the growth of fungi is slowed or stopped.

Practical experience with Mycofriend

Due to providing the study of preparation efficiency with different crops, BTU-CENTER has been conducting field and scientific trials since 2017.

We have done 220 trials:

  • 175 independents,
  • 45 with other biologicals,
  • including 72 held on scientific stations.

BTU-CENTER has studied the impact of Mycofriend on different crops and in gardens in 11 countries of the Europe, 150 thousand nectar were treated with Mycofriend for this purpose.

Hence, we are confident in the validity of the results. More than 83 % of trials have increased yields and led to an increase in profits. The average additional income 125 $ /ha.

The Mycofriend efficiency on sunflower.

To study the Mycofriends efficiency depending on the level of mineral nutrient content, we conducted several trials of it in combination with various mineral fertilizers at the Institute of agriculture of Steppe zone NAAS of Ukraine.

Soil agrochemical properties:

Level of humus content: 4,72 %
Alkaline hydrolyzable nitrogen 10,4
Soil available phosphorus and potassium 19,1 and 14,2 mg per 100 g of soil

Fore crop: corn for grain

The trial was conducted in three repetitions. 
The first - without fertilizers, 
The second with mineral fertilizers N40P40K40 
The third with organo- mineral fertilizers N40P40K40.

For each repetition, the seeds were treated with Mycofriend at a rate 5 l/t. The Control field without Mycofriend was provided for each repetition by comparing test results.

All trials have shown the positive impact of Mycofriend on sunflowers. We could see an increase in sunflower yield on each of them.

We have conducted another trial in Poltava region, Ukraine. Mycofriend was applied in the furrow with a rate of 0,2 l/ha. The yield on the treated field was 2,62 t/ha, which is more than 0,28 t/ha compared to the control field.

The Mycofriend efficiency on corn.

Let's start the overview on Mycofriend impact on corn from field trials in Germany. 

In 2020 we conducted a trial to study the Mycofriend efficiency in Germany's climate with corn. The preparation was applied for seed treatment with a rate (5 l/t) or 0,10 l/ha. As a result, the field with Mycofriend has provided the yield better by 0,8 t/ha than control; 13,5 t/ha trial and 12,7 t/ha control.









  

 

 

 

 

        


In 2021 Mycofriend was conducting a study in Vinnytsia region, Ukraine. The preparation was applied in-furrow during the seeding with an application rate 0,2 l/ha. Corn hybrid Tesla, fore crop sugar beat, soil - chernozem.

Trial - 12,9 t/ha

Increment over control - +0,89 t/ha

For the last few years, our experts have gathered a lot of proofs of the positive impact of Mycofriend on corn during the long stress period, like drought or deficit of nutrients. The Mycorrhizas effect result is strong developed root system that lets plants to provide the necessary nutrients better.

Among the agrarians there is a stereotype that mycorrhiza works effectively only in good humidity conditions. However, mycorrhiza has a better impact during the drought, as it helps plants to find and use moisture from the lower soil layers and prevent water stress. Due to the branching of fungal hyphae, the ability of the root system of mycorrhizal corn plants to cover a larger volume of soil increases, thus increasing not only the amount but also the rate of moisture absorption. The studies show that the length of hyphae can be 50-100 times longer than the roots.

Mycorrhization of corn is also relevant in optimizing the provision of plants with available phosphorus. After all, orthophosphate (the most available form of phosphorus for assimilation by plants) is sedentary; roots can absorb it only at a distance of a few millimetres from their surface. However, due to the branching of mycorrhiza's hyphae, phosphorus becomes available at a much greater distance - up to 12 cm. According to a similar principle, corn plants can consume other compounds of macro- and micronutrients (potassium, silicon, copper, zinc, sulfur, magnesium, iron, etc.).

BTU-CENTER together with the Institute of agriculture of Steppe zone NAAS of Ukraine, have studied the effectiveness of Mycofriend on winter wheat depending on the level of mineral nutrient content

The trial was conducted in three repetitions.

The third with organo- mineral fertilizers N90P60K60.
For each repetition, seeds were treated with Mycofriend at a rate of 1,5 l/t.
A Control field without Mycofriend was provided for each repetition by comparing the trials results.
Due to applying Mycofriend, the yield has been increased from 0,25 t/ha to 0,62 t/ha.

The effectiveness of Mycofriend application was studied with different methods of hazelnuts layering using sawdust as a substrate
