Most common questions about Groundfix
Groundfix – is a soil biofertilizer created by BTU-CENTER's microbiologists to enhance NPK assimilation. Groundfix mobilizes phosphorus and potassium from the insoluble soil compounds, fixes nitrogen and transfers it into a plant-accessible form, and increases the efficiency of mineral fertilizers. It is achieved through the activity of a complex of microorganisms that are parts of the preparation formula, such as Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium var. phosphatic, Azotobacter chorococcum, Enterobacter, and Paenibacillus polymyxa (total viable cells 0.5–1.5 x 109 CFU/cm3). Moreover, GROUNDFIX contains vitamins, phytohormones, amino acids and other physiologically active substances.
In this short article, we collected the most popular questions about Groundfix from our customers.
1. WHAT WILL THE APPLICATION OF GROUNDFIX DO?
The application of Groundfix will provide the soil with nutrients and stimulate better plant growth and development. The application effects:
- enhances phosphorus mobility and potassium availability in soil and mineral fertilizers;
- converts atmospheric nitrogen into available for plants form;
- the recommended application rate of the mineral fertilizers can be reduced by 30%;
- prolongs availability of the nutrient elements
- increase yields by up to 25%
2. CAN GROUNDFIX BE USED TOGETHER WITH ALL FERTILIZERS?
According to the results of numerous field and laboratory trials, the application of Groundfix is available with most types of fertilizers, including the complex liquid fertilizer.
Groundfix was applied to more than 150 thousand hectares, and the total number of trials is over 350; 196 of them are individual, and more than 156 – with other biologicals. The successful result was obtained in 86% of the trials.
However, we recommend consulting with our experts regarding the compatibility of the active ingredient.
3. HOW MUCH FERTILIZER CAN BE SAVED VIA GROUNDFIX APPLYING?
Groundfix enhances phosphorus mobility and potassium availability in soil and mineral fertilizers and contributes to yields increasing by up to 25% and reducing the recommended application rate of the mineral fertilizers by 30%
The proof of Groundfix's effectiveness we can demonstrate from field trials. In 2019, several trials were conducted to obtain objective data on the efficacy of GROUNDFIX in combination with various mineral fertilizers. They were carried out at the Vinnytsia National Agrarian University on sunflower crops, corn and soybean.

4. WHAT TO DO WHEN AFTER APPLYING GROUNDFIX, THE WEATHER CHANGED, FOR EXAMPLE, CAME FROST/HEAT/DROUGHT?
Don't worry! Bacteria in the bio preparation Groundfix survive in adverse weather conditions and resist direct sunlight. We recommend applying it to the soil with subsequent cultivation to provide the effective action of all biopreparation components. Remember that all microorganisms, including those contained in the Groundfix, have particular adaptations for survival under unfavourable conditions such as low or high temperatures or low moisture content in the soil. It is termed quiescence or dormancy. During the dormancy stage, the microorganisms stop taking in nutrients, and their metabolism slows considerably. Some microorganisms form spores - the form is surrounded by thick membranes which protect the living cell from high and low temperatures, ultraviolet light, pH changes and some chemicals. In spore form, microorganisms can survive for decades. Other types of bacteria can form cysts. They are less resistant than spores but still allow the microorganisms to stay under the influence of negative factors for several months to more than half a year. Most importantly that during the stage of dormancy, the microorganisms stop taking in nutrients, and their metabolism slows considerably.
When they are exposed to normal conditions, the outer shell of the dormant form (spores or cysts) is destroyed, the cell comes out, and the feeding processes are activated - the microorganisms begin to live a normal life. As soon as normal conditions come, they recover their vital functions and perform those valuable functions that are inherent in them.
5. IS IT NECESSARY TO APPLY THE PREPARATION EVERY YEAR?
Groundfix application enhances soil with beneficial microorganisms, which improve NPK assimilation; enhances phosphorus mobility and potassium availability in both soil and mineral fertilizers, and promotes the converting of atmospheric nitrogen into available for plant form. Moreover, it prolongs the availability of nutrient elements. According to the hundreds of trials in BTU-CENTER with partners and customers, we observe the proven efficacy in at least two seasons. However, for maximum effect, we recommend providing the maximum titer of microorganisms at the beginning of the season and applying annually.
6. THE NECESSARY STORAGE CONDITIONS FOR PREPARATION?
Groundfix is recommended for storage with a temperature of 4-10 o C. If Graundfix is stored in conditions not significantly different from those recommended, the concentration of microorganisms in the product and their activity may slightly change. But, If Graundfix is stored in incorrect conditions (air temperature above +20oC, direct sunlight, etc.) there is a risk of reducing the product's shelf life. In this case, you should use the drug within one month.
If there are no storage conditions, you can pre-order and store the preparation at the manufacturer's warehouses or our logistic centres and receive the product before application.
7. WHICH METHODS OF APPLICATION ARE RECOMMENDED FOR GROUNDFIX?
Groundfix is effective for soil nutrition and enhancing NPK assimilation for most crops in integrated and organic farming. The application of biofertilizer is possible:
- During primary tillage
- During pre-sowing cultivation
- Row fertilization when sowing
- Early spring feeding with liquid fertilizers
To find the best solution for each case, we recommend consulting with our agronomists
