BTU-CENTER includes a separate R&D center - the Institute of Applied Biotechnology. The Institute is constantly researching promising directions for the development of biotechnology and improving existing formulations of biologicals. This year was very active with special challenges for Ukrainian R&D. We share SOME OF interesting research from the Institute of Applied Biotechnology.
1 – Azotobacter crooccocum based stimulant Azotohelp proved high effectiveness with reduced rate of fertilizers on corn, Czech Republic
The trial included 3 variants:
- CONTROL. On control plot 200 kg/ha of urea was applied before sowing and 120 kg/ha of ammophos used during vegetation without application of Azotohelp;
- 1 VARIANT. The 40 kg/ha of urea was applied before sowing and 0.5 l/ha of Azotohelp was applied in the phase of VVSN16;
- 2 VARIANT. The 40 kg/ha of urea was applied before sowing. Then, in the phase of VVSN16, the Azotohelp with rate 0.25 l/ha was applied. Second application was done before panicle ejection with rate 0.25 l/ha.
As a result, in both variants with the use of Azotohelp, we received an increase in yield of corn green and dry mass with reduced rate of applied fertilizers. The results are in the table below.
In total during the years there were made 370 Azotohelp researches. More than 250 were conducted with other biological products, including 115 at research stations. 87% of farmers have positive results in fields, where income covers application cost. Average additional income per ha is more than 170$.

2 - Мicrobial polysaccharide Liposam proved moisture retention function, Ukraine
Nowadays, many countries of the world face a problem of average annual rainfall and moisture availability during critical phases of crop growth. It was decided to conduct an experiment aimed at increasing the tolerance of plants to drought in the field. The treatment was carried out in two variations:
- Liposam preparation 1 l/ha
- Preparations Organic-Balance 0.3 l/ha + Azotohelp 0.5 l/ha + Liposam 0.25 l/ha
The treatment was carried out on sunflower in the phase of ВВСН 14-16 and on corn in the phase of ВВСН 15-15.
Compared to the control plot, sunflower yield increased by 0.73 t/ha and 0.83 t/ha respectively.
Corn yield compared to the control plot increased by 0.82 t/ha and 1.6 t/ha respectively. More information can be found in the table.

Liposam forms a protective elastic net that retains moisture, doesn’t destroy the natural shell of the seeds. Breathing and photosynthesis are free. It operates in a wide range of temperatures from 5° to 50° С. The shelf life is 3 years. The efficiency was noted by 86% of farmers. An agent is compatible in tank mixtures with the most active substances. Product is certified for organic agriculture.
3 – PK-mobilizer and Azotobacter biostimulant showed high effectiveness with Rizoline inoculant in field, Germany
For research were chosen biological fertilizer Groundfix that enhances NPK assimilation, Azotohelp biostimulant for N-fixation and Liposam bioadhesive.
In the pre-sowing inoculation of soybean seeds, three variants of Rizoline inoculant combination were used:
- Rizoline 2 l/t
- Rizoline 2 l/t + Groundfix 3 l/t
- Rizoline 2 l/t + Azotohelp 0.5 l/t + Liposam 0.3 l/t
As we can see on the photos, the difference in the number of nodule bacteria on the root system is most visible between the Control variant and the mixture of Rizoline + Azotohelp + Liposam. The difference in the number of well-formed nodule bacteria between variants indicates their effectiveness.

4 – Soil health enhancer Ecostern on wheat residues not only balances microflora but accelerates stubbles decomposition on the soil, Slovakia
A large amount of crop residues and their poor decomposition on field is a common problem for farmers. Therefore, to accelerate the decomposition of crop residues,
balance microflorain the soil and increase the biological activity of the soil, it is necessary to use a soil enhancer. In one of the trials, we compared the work of the Ecostern soil enhancer e and crumbly residues in comparison to the control variant where the crop residues were more dense.
